Your Questions, Answered
-
Answer – Absolutely YES. This was the biggest misconception I frequently heard at the previous show we attended and again this time around and my continued biggest concern as this could be so dangerous if ignored. If your car has factory tinted windows (not aftermarket tint), then they are predominantly privacy not protection glass and are providing low protection against harmful UV rays. It’s not anyone’s fault if they aren’t aware of this but it’s a huge misconception that needs highlighting and addressing.

Sun safety awareness is the driving force behind everything we do, we want expecting parents to view our products as baby essentials and must haves. We feel our safety product should be on your baby shopping list alongside your Car Seat, Pram and Bassinet. Even with cloud cover your baby is still exposed to harmful UV rays, I would always recommend proactive protection and prevention over potential harm to their skin from the moment you leave the hospital for the first time with your newborn.
-
Answer – Yes and no it won’t. This question related mainly to people who had leased vehicles or company cars that would need to be returned at some point.
You don’t want it to be too easy to initially remove as you want your shade to be fitted really well to ensure you can wind your window down safely without damaging your Shady or car. However, you can pick the edge away when it’s time to remove and take it off easily without damaging your window. There maybe a little bit of adhesive residue left on the window but a little bit of hot soapy water or window cleaner and it removes easily and restores your window back to how it was before fitting.
-
Answer – No, we don’t want you to be able to reposition your shade once you have fitted it as then you wouldn’t be able to get all the benefits of winding your window down. We would be just like all the other shades available and you would experience all the same problems that you get with them which we want to avoid for you.
Going back to the original question/misconception of ‘I have tinted windows so I don’t need a shade’. If you combine one of our shades to your factory tinted windows you will have very high sun protection for your baby.
-
Answer – Yes, however there was more to this question than I initially anticipated when I was asked it. The high contrast designs we have created were done specifically to support newborn cognitive and visual development, I saw firsthand how effective our designs were at the show engaging with newborns putting our sample window panels in front of them and watching the engagement.
My first response to this question was ‘do you mind me asking why? Because yes we do offer a plain one but is there a particular reason why just out of curiosity?’ The reasoning was because they didn’t want the design to be seen on the outside of their car. Completely understandable. I then showed them how our shades appear on the outside of the window by turning our demo panel around and said to them I completely agree with you which is why I’ve designed it the way I have so you can’t see it 😊.
-
Answer – Yes. Once I demonstrated how to apply our shade a common response was that it was like fitting a screen protector for your mobile phone and I thought that was a good relatable analogy. In essence you are making sure the surface is thoroughly clean and free from grease and streaks. Then starting from the top peel and fold down the top inch of the backing paper and stick that to the window then work your way down with your squeegee or a plastic card like you’re applying wallpaper. It’s important to offer up your shade onto the window before you apply to make sure you know where you want to position it and trim with a pair of scissors if necessary. The material is very durable so don’t be afraid to apply plenty of pressure, especially on the edges, you want to make sure that they aren’t lifted away from the window. Then just check there are no bubbles or pockets of air left behind and this can be done by going around to the outside of the window where they are more visible, if you see any simply go back to the inside of the door and work them out until your Shady is completely adhered to the window. We include step by step fitting instructions and a QR code that takes you to an additional comprehensive installation video to provide extra support.

Answer – We have calculated 86% protection against harmful UV rays based on the surface area of the shade minus the size and estimated number of perforations in that area. We would make it 100% but we wanted some light to come through to create a comfortable environment inside the back of the car and also to provide safety for your little passenger so you can see out through the shade when you are reversing out of a car park space to avoid a collision.
Going back to the original question/misconception of ‘I have tinted windows so I don’t need a shade’. If you combine one of our shades to your factory tinted windows you will have very high sun protection for your baby.
-
Answer – Yes. The tiny holes are the only part of the shade that allow light to come through which we need as explained in the previous answer above.
-
Answer – No. We have tried to calculate a one size fits all design to cater to most vehicle window sizes. If positioned correctly when applying, you should be able to shield your baby from the sunlight. Our shade is also trimmable so you can cut it to shape with a sharp pair of scissors if you believe that will be beneficial being able to position it on the window better to block the sun, for example more towards the back of the door where it narrows.
We are constantly exploring new ways of improving and increasing our product offerings therefore as soon as there are any developments we will keep you up to date via our social channels.

Answer – Inside.

Answer – Yes (soon), We trialled this at the show to see if it was a popular request and it was so please bear with us and it will be an option on our site soon once we are back in stock.
-
Answer – Yes. Your Shady may arrive with it lifted from the backing paper when you take it out of the packaging and open it out flat creating a tunnel effect. Please don’t be alarmed, we wish it didn’t happen as it looks a bit untidy and we do everything we can to prevent it but it can happen in transport sometimes unfortunately. When you’re trying to create a product that does something that all the one’s that have gone before don’t which does mean there may need to be small concessions and this is one.
The backing paper you remove when fitting your Shady is designed to be low friction so it’s easy to remove when you come to apply and this is why it doesn’t want to stick back down to it. The shade however still retains its stickiness if you are fitting it soon after taking it out of the package. The car window you are applying to is the complete opposite to the backing paper, it’s high friction you’re your shade is designed to stick well to glass as long as the fitting instructions/video we supply are carefully followed and adhered to.
We would recommend against trying to use weights to flatten the shade but instead allow it to settle under its own accord once removed from the packaging.
The Baby Show Excel 2026
One of the most important aspects about attending The Baby Show is that every single expecting or current parent who comes to visit us on our stand asks at least one important question. This is really important for us to get firsthand feedback and to better understand the most common concerns people may have. As a ‘new kid on the block’ it is only natural for potential Shady owners to have questions about our product as we are new and solving problems other shades don’t. It’s so frustrating and disheartening to hear all the horror stories from parents who have bought the usual suction cup or sock over the door shades and have experienced issues and aren’t happy so they come to see us and need to buy another shade.
People would ask if I minded if they asked me questions, I am more than happy to spend time answering these questions as reassuringly as possible as it can be difficult to build trust if the consumer doesn’t feel safe so let me share the most frequently asked questions and misconceptions from this year’s show.
With regards to all the questions answered, if you have any additional concerns with any of the points raised please contact us info@sunshady.co.uk and we will do our best to provide further reassurance and support.
We want you to feel safe as well as your baby.
A huge thank you to everyone who came and visited us at the show and were so complimentary about our product and supportive towards a small business trying to make a big impact with sun safety for your babies.
